MEMBER CODE of CONDUCT
Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity - Epsilon-Kappa Zeta
Membership in the Epsilon-Kappa Zeta (Chapter) of Lambda Chi Alpha at Drexel University is a privilege which brings with it benefits and rights, but also standards and obligations of conduct.
All members are expected to conduct themselves with a certain behavior according to laws promoting the common good of our Brotherhood. Each member is expected to comply with the Constitution and Statutory Code, policies of the General Fraternity, Chapter Bylaws and, the Code of Conduct of Drexel University.
In order to stress those principles most important to Epsilon-Kappa Zeta, each member is expected to agree to and sign, this Code of Conduct, at the beginning of each term.
Thus I agree that;
- I will never haze a new member candidate or Brother.
Hazing is defined as any action or situation created, intentionally or unintentionally, to produce physical discomfort or mental discomfort of a member by embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule, and where such activity is targeted at an individual or a select group of the membership.
Hazing includes, but is not limited to: any brutality of a physical nature such as, whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics, or exposure to the elements; forced consumption of any food, liquor, drug, or other substance; any voluntary or forced physical activity which could adversely affect the physical health and safety of the individual; any activity which would subject the individual to extreme mental stress or which could adversely affect the dignity of the individual; such as sleep deprivation, forced exclusion from social contact, or forced conduct which could result in extreme embarrassment.
No member shall ask any other member to do something that a man couldn’t or shouldn’t do.
- I will not possess, distribute, or use illegal substances and /or illicit drugs.
There shall be no possession or use of illegal drugs or controlled substances, including related paraphernalia, in the chapter house, on fraternity premises, at fraternity functions wherever held, or in any other fashion that would be connected in any way with the fraternity. Violation of this policy is grounds for immediate expulsion from the fraternity.
- I will act responsibly in the use of alcohol following all state, Fraternity and University laws and guidelines.
There shall be no sale of alcoholic beverages by the fraternity and fraternity funds shall not be used to purchase alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages shall not be purchased in the name of, or on behalf of, the fraternity with pooled funds. No alcohol shall be present at any recruitment, associate member, pre-initiation, or initiation activity.
Fraternity functions and/or events, that involve alcoholic beverages, will be planned and conducted in accordance with both the Drexel University Fraternity & Sorority Life Social Policy for Events with Alcohol and the Lambda Chi Alpha Risk Management Event Planning Guide. Open parties are prohibited.
- I will conduct myself as a gentleman at all times and in all places.
I will not tolerate or condone any form of sexist or sexually abusive behavior including any actions which are demeaning to women. I value, accept, and embrace all people in our community and will not tolerate racial, ethnic, sexual, or religious bias, discrimination, or harassment.
- I will strive through education, involvement, and work, to become a better brother, student, and man.
I will continue my education in the fraternity by reviewing the Pedagogus and ritual manual. I will work diligently at my studies to become a better student. I will attend all meetings I am expected too, when able, and contribute to the fraternity to the best of my ability and according to my strengths.
